CoScroll Privacy Policy
Effective October 8, 2026
CoScroll is an app, operated by Neapolis Ventures LLC ("we", "us"), that helps you understand videos and posts you see on social media. This policy explains what data CoScroll handles, why, and what choices you have. We wrote it to be read, not skimmed past: CoScroll only works with what is on your screen, so we think you should know exactly what happens to it.
The short version: CoScroll has no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking. Nothing leaves your phone until you ask CoScroll to explain something. When you do, the clip or screenshot is sent to our server and to two AI providers to produce your explanation, and our server does not keep it. Your last 20 explanations are saved on your phone only. If you choose to share a Rewind, we keep what you share for 90 days so the people you send it to can open it.
What CoScroll captures, and when
While a session is running (on your phone only). When you tap Launch session and then Start Broadcast, iOS starts a screen broadcast to CoScroll Live, CoScroll's broadcast extension. iOS shows a red recording indicator the whole time, and you can stop it at any time. CoScroll Live keeps only the most recent ~50 seconds of:
- the audio played by the app you are using (not your microphone; CoScroll never uses the microphone), and
- screen images, taken about every 2 seconds, plus a sharper copy of the screen when it is still.
This buffer stays in memory on your phone and is continuously overwritten. It is not sent anywhere unless you trigger a Rewind.
When you trigger a Rewind. When you run "Rewind with CoScroll" (for example with Back Tap, an on-screen button, the Action Button or Siri), CoScroll takes the part of the buffer it needs and sends it to our server:
- A video with sound: up to the last 45 seconds of app audio and the screen images from that time.
- A muted video: up to the last 20 seconds of screen images, no audio.
- A post: one screenshot of your screen.
If nothing was playing with sound, CoScroll asks you whether it was a muted video or a post and sends nothing until you choose.
With each Rewind, CoScroll also sends the language you chose under "Explain in" and a random identifier for this app on your device (Apple's "identifier for vendor"), which we use only to limit how many Rewinds a device can make per hour.
Whatever is on your screen at that moment is included, which may include other people's posts, names, faces or messages if they were visible. Please only trigger a Rewind on content you are comfortable having processed as described here.
How your Rewind is processed
Our server passes your Rewind to two AI service providers, which process it on our behalf to produce your explanation:
- OpenAI converts the audio to text (speech-to-text). It receives the audio only.
- Anthropic (Claude) reads the transcript and the screen images, translates and explains them, and runs web searches to find context and check facts. Search queries are written by the AI from the content of your Rewind.
Both providers process this data under their API terms, which do not allow them to use it to train their models. They may keep it for a limited time for safety and abuse monitoring, as described in their policies: OpenAI · Anthropic.
The explanation is sent back to your phone.
What our server keeps
- Your clip, screenshot and explanation: not stored. Our server processes each Rewind once in memory and discards it when your explanation is finished. The only exception is a Rewind you choose to share (see "Shared Rewinds" above).
- Technical logs: for each request, our hosting provider (Railway) records operational details such as the time, the size of the request, how long each step took, which step failed if any, and may include your IP address. These logs contain no audio, images, transcripts or explanations. We use them only to run and fix the service. They are visible to us for 7 days, and our hosting provider handles them under its own privacy policy.
- Usage records: for each Rewind and each share, we keep a short record to run the service, fix problems and understand costs: the time, the type (video, muted video or post), clip length, which steps succeeded or failed, how long each step took, how much processing it used and what it cost us, and a one-way scrambled code derived from the device identifier (it can't be turned back into the identifier) so we can count active users. These records contain no audio, images, transcripts or explanations. They are kept for up to 12 months.
- Rate limiting: the device identifier described above (or, if missing, your IP address) is held in memory for up to an hour to count Rewinds. It is not written to disk, and it is cleared whenever the server restarts.
Shared Rewinds
You can share a Rewind with someone (for example by message or email). This is the only time our server keeps content, and only what you choose to share:
- When you tap Share, CoScroll uploads the explanation (text), a share card image, and, only if you leave "Include image" on, up to 4 screen images from that Rewind. No audio is shared.
- This creates a page with an unguessable link (coscroll.ai/r/…). Anyone with the link can see it, so share it only with people you trust with that content. The page is marked so search engines don't index it.
- Shared Rewinds are deleted automatically after 90 days. You can remove one earlier: in Settings → Recent Rewinds, deleting a shared Rewind also takes down its link.
- The page credits the account that posted the original content, when it was visible, and includes a link to download CoScroll.
If you see a shared Rewind that shouldn't be online, use the Report link on the page or email us.
What stays on your phone
- Your last 20 Rewinds (the explanation text plus up to 8 screen images, or the post screenshot) so you can reopen them from Settings → Recent Rewinds. Older ones are deleted automatically. Audio is not saved.
- A short log of your last 20 Rewind attempts (time and whether it worked), to help you troubleshoot.
- The files from your most recent Rewind (audio, images, screenshot) in CoScroll's storage, until your next Rewind replaces them.
- Your settings (language, setup progress).
You can delete your Rewinds at any time (see "Your choices" below). Deleting the app deletes all of this.
What we don't do
- No accounts or sign-in, and we don't ask for your name, email or contacts. When you share, you pick the recipient in Apple's share sheet; CoScroll never sees your contacts.
- No advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs, and no tracking across other apps or websites.
- We don't sell or share your data, except with the AI providers above to produce your explanation, with our hosting provider to run the server, and on the shared Rewind pages you create yourself.
- We don't use your Rewinds to train AI models.
Your choices
- Stop capturing at any time: tap End session in CoScroll, or tap the red recording indicator and stop the broadcast.
- Delete saved Rewinds: in Settings → Recent Rewinds, swipe left on a Rewind to delete it, or tap Clear Rewind history to delete all of them, including the files from your last Rewind. Deleting the app also deletes everything.
- Ask us: you can ask what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing us. As explained above, our server does not store your content, so there is usually nothing to delete beyond short-lived technical logs.
Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, UK or California), you may have additional rights over your personal data, including to access, correct, delete or object to its processing, and to complain to your data protection authority. Contact us to exercise them.
Children
CoScroll is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we don't knowingly process their data.
Changes to this policy
If we change how CoScroll handles data, we will update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect, and for significant changes we will also tell you in the app.
